The Irish Postmasters’ Union warmly welcomes the Government‘s commitment to invest €15 million annually over the next five years in the Post Office Network. This landmark decision represents a strong recognition of the vital economic, social and environmental role that Post Offices play in communities throughout Ireland.
Post Offices are a cornerstone of community life, supporting local economies, providing trusted and accessible services, helping to combat social isolation, and ensuring that people can access essential services close to home. The Government’s investment acknowledges the unique contribution of the Network and its importance to the sustainability and wellbeing of communities across the country.
The IPU wishes to thank all political parties and public representatives who supported the case for sustained investment in the Post Office Network. The broad political consensus that emerged around the need to protect and strengthen the network was instrumental in achieving this positive outcome.
We are particularly grateful to Minister Patrick O’ Donovan whose support and leadership were crucial in delivering this important investment. We also acknowledge Minister Charlie McConalogue, who through his responsibility for the Post Office Network, worked constructively to advance the case for investment and sustainability. Special recognition is also due to Deputy Micheál Carrigy, whose consistent support and advocacy ensured that the challenges and opportunities facing Post Offices remained firmly on the Governments agenda.
This investment provides a strong foundation for the future of Ireland’s Post Office Network. The IPU looks forward to working with Government and stakeholders to ensure this investment delivers lasting benefits for Postmasters, customers and communities throughout the country
